ONE DIYer's outdoor area was severely outdated and in desperate need of a decorative upgrade.
Thankfully, she was able to put her skills to the transformative test - and she passed with flying - or at least spray painted - colors.

"This side of the patio needed a makeover and honestly I was sick of staring at our AC units," said Kristy (@designingparkside).
She showed off the underwhelming outdoor space that was in need of some style upgrades, and she seemed to know exactly how to do it.
"I gave my porch aDIY Patio makeover and added this privacy wall -gives so much shade and changed the wholepatio design," she said.
Every great project has to start somewhere and hers began at Home Depot where she stocked up on one by four common wooden boards, a couple of two by six boards, and a two by four.
"It started by cutting them all to size to fit my patio and then sanded everything down with one 20-grit sandpaper and then ran over it again with 400-grit to make it smooth," she said.
Kristy then went over the two by sixes and two by fours with black gloss spray paint.
Not taking any chances, she even covered all of her boards with a clear top coat to protect them from the weather before putting her DIY skills to work with some drilling.
"I attached my two by sixes to either side of the opening. The one next to the house I was able to attach into a stud. But the other side needed heavy duty stucco anchors."

Once those were up, she attached her one by fours to the front using the pieces she had already cut off as spacers.
Kristy was now halfway through but there was no slowing down for her as she was anxious to see the fruits of her labor.

"I began attaching my two by four in the center for some added stability," she said.
Next, she moved on to her sitting area that was also in need of a an upgrade.
"I cleaned off that table and chairs they had sitting here and gave those a quick refresh."
Kristy used black fabric paint on the chairs and covered all the metal and table with a "really pretty blue."
Her product of choice was the $7.98 Glidden's max flex spray paint in the shade everlasting from Home Depot.

The spray is described as being an all-surface paint that is ideal for both interior and exterior spaces and can be used on woods, metal, and plastic.
Boasting a spray pattern that dries within five minutes, there are no drips or streaks to worry about - perhaps that was the reason it had plenty of positive reviews.

"The final touch was adding some hanging planters to the slat wall and I feel like it really made the whole space come together.
"Now not only are my AC units hidden but this slat wall provides so much shade on this side of the patio," she said.
Kristy was now all smiles as she sat in her new and much improved outdoor area.
Her fans were also loving the luxe new area and seemed to think the DIYer could give herself a pat on the back for the new patio space.
"Came out great, especially the table and chairs - love the color!" said one follower.
"Thank you so much! I’m loving the new color!" she replied.
"I love this. Great idea," another viewer agreed.
