I agree that roasted potatoes are yummy, but boiling the sweet potatoes has several advantages over roasting:- you have a burner on for 20 minutes vs. an oven on for 50 minutes - it's healthier to boil: if you have anyone watching weight or sugars, then you want to boil. The glycemic index for boiled sweet potatoes is about half that for roasted ones. This is important given all the other Thanksgiving carbs.- also boiling changes the sweet potato, aiding digestion

I made this dish the day before. Removed from fridge an hour before reheating in oven. Forgot to add the pecan topping, which I had made, and was still delicious. I was reheating with several other dishes that called for 400 degrees. This one didn’t have a suggested temp, so used 385 for everything.

Grace

Roasted the potatoes instead of boiling - prick all over with a fork and cook for about 50 minutes at 400. Made peeling easy and brought out the natural sweetness in the potatoes. Didn’t have maple syrup but didn’t need it - this was a hit! Will be making on Thanksgiving.

JB, I am trying this now… I will report on Friday as to the success at reheating this dish (and I’m sure people will want marshmallows melted on top also!).

AB

Roasted the sweet potatoes and profited thereby. New family favorite!

Erica

We thought this was way too buttery. I feel like the butter could have been halved. I would make it again, but with far less butter.

Hilary

Made this for Thanksgiving and it was an absolute hit! Nothing left. got the comment that it was the best dish at the table! I made as directed, but doubled the recipe. The brown butter made the recipe. So delicious!

Amber

Added a 1/4 diced shallot and a sprinkle of cinnamon to the butter - added a lot of depth to the flavor. Highly recommend!

Made this for Thanksgiving 2021 and the brown butter kicks it up to another level. Everyone loved them.

Judy

This was my absolute favorite new recipe from Thanksgiving. Delicious!! This is our new go-to for sweet potatoes. I did use half and half rather than whole milk. The brown butter with the maple syrup was wonderful allowing the sweet potato flavor to shine through without being overly sweet. Loved the salted pecans on top as well. We have enjoyed the leftovers just as much as on Thanksgiving Day, so for next year, these could easily and successfully be made ahead.

Jww

This was delicious. I thought it needed a bit more seasoning. I added another half tsp. of salt and one truvia packet. I replaced the pecans( most young children don’t like nuts) with candied orange slices. I made it one day ahead.

Just made this recipe for TG with a trial run tonight...yes, you can make it advance. Easy to reheat in microwave or oven. I also substituted the milk for Straus brand non-fat yoghurt and used just 1/4 cup of butter....turned out very savory with a creamy texture and excellent flavor.

Steven Temple

I substituted 1/2 cup heavy cream for the 1/2 cup whole milk. Everyone at the dinner party loved this dish.

April

Baked the sweet potatoes at 425 degrees for about 1-1/2 hours. Ended up puréeing the sweet potatoes in the food processor (half at a time) since they were still fibrous when I used the mixer. I did not add extra salt or pepper (used salted butter)

This dish was fine, no more, no less. I question the rich orange hue in the picture as sweet potatoes are white. Is a yam understood to be interchangeable with a sweet potato?

Gonzaga Fan

Made as directed and it was fine, no more, no less. I question why the picture shows richly colored orange potatoes when sweet potatoes are white.

Emily Guthrie

Why peel the potatoes? I keep the skins on in all sweet potatoes recipes for the fiber and the minerals. It softens up enough to be digestible.

Peggy Polenberg

Love sweet potatoes. Instead of boiling we scrub, trim & roast in a hot oven. Potatoes caramelize & bubble. Adds much flavor.

Microwaving whole sweet potatoes is super quick, & scooping out the flesh easier than peeling. Just be sure to pierce them in several places & place them in a loosely covered container or wrap them loosely in parchment. Otherwise you’ll have burnt sweet potato spatters all over the interior of your microwave.
